The mothers' union was founded by Mary Summer in 1876. It is a worldwide society and its objects are:

• To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of Marriage, and to promote its wider understanding.

• To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the church.

• To promote conditions in society, favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.

The Meanwood Branch of the Mothers' Union celebrated 100 years in 2003. There are 31 members, 3 of whom are Male, 3 members are IMPC (Indoor Members Prayer Circle) - Elderly members who are unable to attend meetings, but still take an interest in the Mothers Union activities. The meetings are held in the Parochial Hall on the first Tuesday afternoon in the month. A variety of speakers are invited, and most meetings are open to anyone interested. It is usual to have at least two evenings out in the year, either to go for a meal or a visit to the Theatre.

In the Summer months, weather permitting, members enjoy a short leisurely walk. There are seven members on the committee, including the branch leader, secretary and treasurer. The annual general meeting is held in January. The Meanwood Holy Trinity Mothers'Union is linked to Boroughbridge Mother's Union.
