Mothers' Union

The Mothers’ Union was founded by Mary Sumner in 1876: it is a worldwide society and the Meanwood branch was established in 1903.
Its vision is of "a world where God’s love is shown through loving,
                                                                              respectful and flourishing relationships"

The Mothers' Union Aim is:  To demonstrate the Christian faith in action by the transformation of communities worldwide through the nurture of the family in its many forms.
In order to carry out this Aim, the Mothers’ Union Objectives are:
  • To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding.
  • To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
  • To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
  • To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and protection of children.
The Meanwood branch of the Mothers’ Union, which celebrated 100 years in 2003, has 16 female members and 1 male.  The meetings are held on the first Tuesday afternoon in the month in the Parochial Hall.
A variety of speakers are invited, and most meetings are open to anyone interested.

We join with other members of the Headingley Deanery for annual Advent and Lady Day services; also for a Deanery ‘Do’ each year.  Our branch is linked with Boroughbridge Mothers’ Union (February 2012)
