THE MEANWOOD VILLAGE ASSOCIATION
The Meanwood Village Association, which is non denominational and non political, was set up in 1972 with the following aims:
1) To research, record and preserve in all possible ways the history of Meanwood.
2) To preserve the village atmosphere and environment.
Mr Arthur Hopwood and Mr Fred Casperson gathered information from many sources in order to write their book 'Meanwood'.
The Association has a large collection of photographs, newspaper cuttings, films and articles. It is presently busy transferring information onto CD Rom.
The Leeds suburb of Meanwood is situated close to large areas of woodland, and a park through which flows Meanwood Beck. The stone cottages, cosy pubs and cricket fields all contribute to the village atmosphere that the Association wishes to preserve.
The Association meets four times a year. There are guided walks, slide and film shows, talks, and visits to places of interest. In addition there are various social events which vary from Pate & Plonk to quiz nights, Coffee Evenings to a Wine Walk.
Membership subscription is £1 per year. Enquiries should be made to the secretary Mrs A Burgess(Tel: 0113 275 8421) .
