SCOUTS

The 26th North Leeds (Meanwood Parish Church) Scout Group consists of 3 sections, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

The Scout Group would welcome adult help either from parents or others who would like to be involved. Please contact any of the leaders below if you wish to be involved.

The boy Scouts take part in many different activities. Cooking, first aid, games, map reading and compass work during the Wednesday evening meetings. In summer, as many as possible of these activities take place out of doors. They follow the new programme of the Scout Association. In addition to the weekly meetings, there are many outings and camps organised. Some of these are run by North Leeds District.

CUBS

Cub Scouts are aged between 8 and about 10.5 years and are the second of the Scouting age groups. The Cub Pack meets on Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 7.45pm and taking part in various indoor and outdoor activities, learning new skills, playing games and making friends.

There are also occasional outings, camps and district events when they can meet Cubs from other Packs for competitions, badge days, acts of worship and most of all have lots of fun.

BEAVERS

Beaver Scouts is for children aged between 6 and 8 year old. Beaver Scouts meet once a week, term time only for an hour and a quarter. Meetings are quite informal, compared to the other Scout sections, the Leaders do not have official titles these are decided upon between the Beaver Scouts and the Leaders. Beaver Scouts, like other Scout sections, have a new programme which can be tailored to meet individual needs. Beavers play a lots of games, inside and outside, weather permitting, do craft activities, have theme nights, do community work, drama and outdoor challenges like tracking, trails and observation trails. There are different badges award when the leaders feel the children have participated sufficiently.

GUIDES

1st Meanwood Guide Company is part of Girl Guiding UK, which before this was known as The Guide Association. We are made up of girls aged between 10 and 15 years. some girls who are older than this become Young Leaders which help us to run our weekly meetings. We meet once a week in term-time from 7.45 pm until 9.15 pm. We have on average about 20 Guides. All Guides are a member of a Patrol which is a group of 4-8 Guides. Our yearly program is made up from 5 program zones. These are:

  • Healthy lifestyles - body image, healthy eating, exercise, smoking, drug awareness salsa dancing relaxation evenings etc.
  • Skills and relationships - communication skills, rights and responsibilities, teamwork activities etc.
  • Global awareness - travel, refugees, environmental issues etc.
  • Celebrating diversity - discrimination, challenging racism, disability awareness etc.
  • Discovery - learning new skills, visiting places and trying new experiences e.g. archery, climbing, abseiling, bowling, swimming, camping assault courses etc.

As well as carrying out activities as a unit where everybody takes part together some activities are also carried out in Patrols. Many of the activities which are carried out in Patrols are planned and organised by the Patrol from theme activity packs called Go For Its.  Anybody is welcome to come and join us. The only things we ask for is a sense of fun and adventure and a willingness to try new activities.
